Mercedes-Benz building battery recycling factory in Germany

FRANKFURT — Mercedes-Benz laid the basis stone for a sustainable battery recycling manufacturing unit in Kuppenheim, southern Germany on Friday.

The pilot plant will have an annual capability of 2500 tonnes and will add to the output of much more than 50,000 battery modules for new electric Mercedes-Benz automobiles.

Recycled batteries will appear from test vehicles and start-up batteries. Dependent on the pilot’s achievement, manufacturing volumes could be scaled up in the medium to extended time period.
